VPS is a very different opportunity than what you might think.  First, there is not a “position” that offers a certain amount of work for a guaranteed income.  Becoming a VPS paralegal is more like starting your own business.  While we might offer overflow work in the short term, there is, again, no guaranteed income and depending up on your specialty area, there may be no available overflow work.  Each VPS paralegal is responsible for building his or her own book of business.

It is our opinion that being a great paralegal does not necessarily translate into being a great virtual paralegal.  Among other things, you must be able to market and sell your skills, as well as be highly disciplined in delivering a top-quality work product within a certain time frame (typically 24 hours), in addition to making each client feel like you’re right there in their office by providing expeditious responses to inquiries. 

And, so you may wonder, why affiliate with VPS?  VPS helps you by providing the basic tools, such as marketing experience, assistance and collateral.  If you are committed and willing to spend about 6 months building your business, we can also help you market your services through our own marketing channels.  VPS also offers the infrastructure you need, which includes a brand that lends credibility, a ready-built infrastructure for timekeeping, billing, etc., virtual office tools, a shared workspace, a marketing formula that works, and a network of paralegals that allows you to market to lawyers outside of your specialty areas.  Much of the administration fee is covered by VPS. So, you spend less non-billable time trying to figure out how to start and run a business.

Your compensation is 50% of each billable hour you work for an established VPS client and 83.33% of each billable hour you work for your clients that you brought into VPS.  In addition, when you bring in enough work so that there is overflow work given to other VPS paralegals, you make the 33.33% of each billable hour another VPS paralegal works for your client.  So, you have the opportunity to capitalize on passive income.

Being a virtual paralegal is not for everyone.  To be a successful VPS paralegal you must have:

• At least 10 years experience in your practice area working in mid-size to large law firms; or a in-house legal department;
  
• Have 4 year college degree from an accredited institution
  
• Have a network of attorneys to begin your marketing efforts
  
• Be committed to being your own boss
  
• Be very disciplined
  
• Have a fully-functioning professional home office complete with a good business printer, a multi-page scanner, shredder, Adobe Acrobat Professional, and MS Office Suite
  
• Be overall technology savvy

It is also important to consider that since this is your own business, VPS does not offer any health or typical employment benefits or guaranteed income.  In addition, for most VPS paralegals it has taken about 6 months to bring your business to a point where it can support you.
